Gwendolyn McClung Carter, age 99, of Lumberton, previously of Weldon, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015. She was daughter of the late Homer Hannah and Frances Elizabeth Smoot McClung. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Esmond Carter, Sr., two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Carter was a lifelong member of Weldon United Methodist Church and was retired from Halifax Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Thompson Biggs of Roanoke Rapids; her son, William Esmond Carter, Jr. of Lumberton, NC; eight grandchildren, David, Gwen, Doug, Katie, Wendy, Heather, Bill, and Matt; and two great grandchildren, Carter and Anna.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Halifax with Rev. Sue Owens officiating. The family will receive at the home of her daughter after the service.
